Before starting your own home business
, know your passion. What do you love to do? What are your talents and skills? It’s important to know your niches. This is what makes a successful home based business.
If you have an interest in the medical field, you could earn money doing medical transcription. Maybe law is your niche. You could do legal transcription from the comfort of your home.
What is Transcription
What is transcription? It entails taking doctors notes from a tape recording or CD and transcribing them into readable notes using the computer and various computer programs. Your computer is your best friend in making an online income in this profession. Whether you are interested in taking dictation for a doctor or a lawyer, you can earn a modest income.
Many people have learned to take transcription from online classes, but some favor taking classes at their community college or business school.
How To Get Started in Medical or Legal Transcription
There are as many jobs available as there are doctors and lawyers. Start by sending your resume to various doctors’ offices, hospitals, clinics, and lawyers’ offices. Do your homework and research “how to write a sales letter” and how to make a great resume.
Also sharpen up on your interviewing skills. Read blogs and articles on how much to charge for your work, and practice typing. Be sure your equipment is in tip top condition. Purchase your printer ink, and look at different word processing programs to help cut down on typing time.
You don’t have to be certified to do medical or legal transcription, but it is good to have proper grammatical and punctuation skills. Know the correct terminology.
All of these things will help you get started in your new home medical or legal transcription business.
Earn From Transcription As Soon As Possible
You can earn as soon as you are hired. Each employee has a different pay date, and you will more than likely have to work for a week or maybe even two before getting your first pay check. So get those resumes out there; the more the better! I read about a woman who sent 200 resumes and had a job within a few days. There are doctors and lawyers who may need your transcription skills right away.
Transcription Pays Well
Those who are doing medical transcription work at home (or legal transcription) can make anywhere from $10.00 an hour to $20.00 or $30.00 an hour! You should have a pretty good idea of what your skills are worth before going to an interview. Some employers pay by each line that you type, some pay by the hour.
A good place to start is to charge (or accept) $.08 per line. If you are typing 200 lines in an hour, you will make $26.00 an hour. Each employer is different. They may pay a new employee less, while offering bonuses for completing so much work within a required amount of time.
Workload Varies from Time to Time
The amount of work you receive varies. Hopefully you will be a busy beaver and receive a lot of work. You may receive dictation from a doctor who has weeks of work piled up. Medical transcription jobs are plentiful and there is great job security in both this field and the legal transcription field.
